Zakk Wylde has stated on an interview over at Modern Guitars Magazine that Gibson will be putting out a new guitar model designed by him called Zakk-V or ZV: “They made me the Flying V, so I’ve been jamming on the V a lot. I designed this other one, it’s called a ZV, Zakk-V, it’s a combination of an SG meets a Flying V, which sounds slammin’. They did an awesome job with that, so they’re going to end up putting that one out as well. I’ve just been using, you know, same thing, my Les Pauls and then the Flying V.”
Zakk Wylde turned 40 years old last January. He is the founder of Black Label Society, a band he started in 1998 and that has released 9 albums. He is also the guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne, an association that started in the late 80’s when he was only 20 years old. Check out the rest of the Modern Guitars Magazine interview here.

I know this is an old post, but I had to state this. The V bridge has been a Gibson staple since the 70s. SDMF Forever

Sua carreira é digna de inveja a qualquer iniciante no mundo do rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The whole story behind the ZV is Zakk wanted this guitar done for years, Gibson originally said that they wouldn’t do it, so Zakk went to Dean and got the muddy bullseye.
When Gibson found out about the muddy bullseye and that Dean was going to endorse Zakk (and release the muddy bullseye as a sig model) They offered Zakk a massive amount of money and the creation of the ZV if he stayed with gibson.

i dunno the dean split tail looks alot like a cheap impression of a v+SG together. the horns on the sg end arent the same as the gibson style, and the v section is all wrong..they have similarities but as far as i can see they are two completely different guitars, but thats just me
Ian says
No, Zakk designed it years ago, and Dean made the Muddy Bullseye for him a while back, then he went to Gibson and they did it for him. He’s had the design for about 7 years now.
Josh Musto says
um…
not to dis zakk cuz hes one of my favorite guitarists, but isn’t that the dean splittail?
im not sure, but i don’t thnk that’s his design. i saw that guitar on the dean website way before zakk started using his “zakk v” and i don’t think zakk can really take credit for that design. the bullseye pattern looks awesome on the guitar, but i don’t know how zakk is getting away with this. i mean, it even has the Dean signature string-thru “v” design right below the bridge.
this is just a bit of a rip -off. dean already put this thing out, and now gibson is going to start a hype that it was designed by zakk wylde and they’re going to charge thousands of dollars for it.
to tell you the truth, the dean splittail probably has better sound than the ZV and it probly also comes with floyd rose.
