Time and the Infinite
is Adam Roger’s latest recording. This time he departs from the quartet and quintet formats he had favored for his previous albums, and is joined by double bassist Scott Colley and drummer Bill Stewart for a trio session. Roger’s plays both electric and acoustic guitars in this album, which mainly consists of workouts of jazz standards including: “Night And Day”, “Cheryl”, “Without A Song”, “I Loves You, Porgy”, “Young And Foolish”; and four new original compositions: “Elegy”, “Time And The Infinite”, “Esteban” and “Ides Of March”. This is his fourth album for Criss Cross records. Past albums include: Apparitions (2005), Allegory (2002) and Art Of The Invisible (2001).
I agree with you Sitki. Adam Rogers is such a great guitar player. I had the chance to see him play live with Chris Potter, Craig Taborn and Nate Smith some months ago. It was an amazing gig. I still haven’t heard this record, but I’m really looking forward to it.
Adam Rogers is a true master of the instrument, both acoustic and electric. His in depth classiscal training is really what lies beyond his musical expression. It is really rare that a guitarist combines the bop qualities of pat Martino and the classical abilities of, say, Christopher Parkening. His harmonic approach is so diverse, and adventurous. His timing, tone and technique is impeccable. He is one complete musician who deserves to be more on the spotlight.
In his recent release, he covers with such ease and mastery a well selected choice of standards, beautifully complementing with his harmonic approach, impeccable timing and technique. For those who are new to Adam , check out also his work with John Patitucci and Chis Potter.
He is definetely one of the few who is here to define the true meaning of this art form in the years to come.
